excellent specificity for the target expressed in tissues;
in vivo diagnostics
Anticalins® fulfil the key requirements for developing products applicable as in vivo diagnostics:
-
favourable binding affinity, allowing preferential recognition of the target relative to background tissue binding;
-
rapid pharmacokinetic clearance of unbound Anticalin® leads to optimal signal/noise ratios and ultimately better quality imaging;
-
ease of labelling with radioactive isotopes for binding detection at high resolution;
-
simple manufacturing and purification process using E.coli-based system.
In February 2006, Pieris entered into a collaborative agreement with GE Healthcare, the market leader in the diagnostic imaging field, to develop Anticalin®-based imaging candidates against two
clinically validated targets. This program is progressing well in development.
