In April 2005, Pieris entered into an agreement with Syngenta AG of Basel, Switzerland to develop an Anticalin® based therapeutic to treat asthma, a disease with high unmet medical need. In its first year the collaboration has made good progress and has met its pre-designated performance milestones. In December 2006, Pieris regained full control over this therapeutic after the partner abandoned all biotech activities.
In July 2003, Pieris formed a strategic alliance with the Technical University of Munich in order to broaden the company's technology base and secure further developments in the basic understanding of lipocalins and Anticalins®.
